“A photographer must be able to see more than others,” Bogdan Lopienski said. In the work “Thoughts,” whose very background could function as an elaborate compositional arrangement, what surprises is the demonstrative appearance of a man’s head in the frame, standing out in the foreground of the photo. Ryczek has created a portrait of extraordinary expressive power and psychological charge, effectively encouraging the viewer to focus his gaze on the man, whose thoughtful face distracts from the second plan of the painting, which, while striking, is based on qualities such as simplicity, symmetry and linearism.
