“The “Line with pencil” series is one of Włodzimierz Pawlak’s more introspective explorations, focusing on the act of drawing a line and on the tension between spontaneity and control. These works are defined by their restraint, emphasizing rhythm, direction, and the expressive potential of a single stroke.
In the presented piece, a soft, hand-drawn pencil line runs across a subtly painted background. Pawlak contrasts the delicacy of the pencil mark with the dynamic underlayer, creating a composition that is minimal yet vibrant. The line—seemingly simple—functions as an autonomous sign, a trace of gesture, and an intimate mark of the artist’s presence.
This work exemplifies Pawlak’s continued investigation into reduced form, the internal structure of the image, and the creation of meaning through the smallest possible visual element: a single line. It is a refined and contemplative example of gestural abstraction, well suited both for collectors and for viewers who appreciate minimalist, contemporary painting.”
