“Drawing No. 2” depicts a set of several faces inscribed in a geometric-abstract landscape composition. The combination of linearity, expressive line and soft chiaroscuro, characteristic of early Fangor, creates an oneiric atmosphere full of understatement and visual tension.
Interspersed faces, inverted orientations and symbolic arrangements suggest a reflection on perception, identity and man’s relationship to his surroundings. This is one of the more psychological works from the early period, in which figuration is combined with formal experimentation.
The work belongs to the collection of the Foundation for the Promotion of the Works of Wojciech Fangor.
