“Drawing No. 6” is an expressive, study of the human body, characteristic of Fangor’s experimental period of the mid-1950s. The figure is framed in a dynamic, almost sculptural pose, with elongated limbs and a simplified torso structure.The expressive line, strong shading and succinct approach to form give the work drama and movement. This is an example of Fangor’s research into corporeality, structure, anatomy and the tension of gesture – an important stage in his formal search before moving on to abstraction and optical painting.
