Sebastian Bienek’s photography exhibition: “Doublefaced”

Sebastian Bienek’s photography exhibition: “Doublefaced”

From September 22 to November 21, 2014

Duality is attributed to the artist almost from the beginning of his creative path. Sebastian Bieniek, born in Poland, moved to West Berlin as a teenager and settled there. In Berlin, he graduated from the College of Fine Arts and studied directing at the Film School. He has been painting, sculpting, photographing, making films, installations and performances for years. It is not limited to one field of art. He is a visual artist which greatly enriches the understanding of the medium of photography. And that’s probably why he is recognized around the world as the author of the ” Doublefaced” series of photographs depicting disturbing and intriguing portraits of a young woman in everyday situations. Aesthetically pleasing, thoughtful, perfect, color-enhanced photographs move and stimulate the imagination. The woman in Bienek’s photographs has two faces. The real and the added with lipstick and eyeliner. The duality of the faces, but also the means of expression make a great impression on the audience. The photographs are memorable, unconventional, crazy yet thoughtful, concept-based and yet full of emotion. They do not represent reality but interpret it. It’s not about how the model looks, but what she really is, what her emotions, dreams, fantasies are.
