The artist uses corporeality to talk about feelings because he believes that gesture is able to say more than words. In the sculpted nudes he tries to go beyond aesthetic form and tell a story, often difficult and painful, sometimes soothing and empowering. “Beauty is tantamount to loss,” as Cormac Mccarthy wrote, and in Górnicki’s sculptures just below the surface of beauty, one can find nostalgia and sadness caused by the inevitable passage of time. To emphasize this passage of time, the artist began to destroy his works, breaking them, crumbling and burning them. He allowed chance into the creative process. Looking at the cracked forms, the shells of his sculptures, one can conclude that loss can also be a gift.
