Additional information:

The game of “Tic Tac Toe” as interpreted by Włodzimierz Pawlak takes on a symbolic dimension, going beyond child’s play. The completed game, in which the wheel – a symbol of femininity – wins, becomes a metaphor for the resolution of the dispute, which is also present in the artist’s other works. In the 2014 series **”War Games “**, using the form of chess and a dynamic color scheme dominated by black and red, Pawlak gives the game a more dramatic, conflictual feel. The paint running down the canvas resembles graffiti, emphasizing the intensity of the competition. The transfer of children’s play to canvas and references to social and political tensions, particularly in the context of gender rivalry, make the work resonate with contemporary realities and go far beyond innocent play.
