Waves

“Waves” is a quintessential drawing by Wojciech Fangor from the early 1970s, reflecting his exploration of fluid, pulsating lines closely linked to his studies of perception, colour and optical movement. The composition is built from multicoloured, parallel bands forming soft, wave-like rhythms that evoke vibrations of light or traces of energy suspended in space.
This work marks an important stage in Fangor’s transition from optical painting to more linear, gesture-based experiments, where line becomes both structural and illusionistic. “Waves” is simultaneously elegant, harmonious and vividly coloured — a key example of Fangor’s mature visual language.
