As in the photograph “A man feeding swans in the snow,” Ryczek built this realization based on the simple principle of dividing the frame into two balancing parts. In the center, the human figure appears again, which, together with the white line marking the center of the composition, dynamizes the static, monotonous surface of the photographed road. What is striking about the work is the scale the artist operates in capturing the empty, monolithic spaces that are the visual dominant feature of the photograph. The boldness with which the photographer approaches the motif of smooth, uniform fields is reminiscent of the artistic stance of abstractionist painters who preach the primacy of large surfaces, flatness and “holistic” treatment of the canvas. The location of the photograph (the road leading to Kiev’s Maidan in Ukraine) allows for broader associations and interpretations.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
