Wojciech Fangor (1922\u20132015)<\/strong> was one of the most influential and celebrated Polish artists of the 20th century \u2014 a painter, graphic designer, creator of spatial environments and a pioneering figure of international op art. Fangor is regarded as a major representative of Polish modern art and a co-founder of the Polish School of Poster Art. While his early work focused on figurative painting and poster design, he achieved global recognition for his luminous abstract compositions from the 1950s and 1960s, built on soft, vibrating colour gradients that generate optical illusions of depth and movement.<\/p>

In the 1960s he developed the concept of \u201cspatial paintings-environments\u201d<\/strong>, immersive installations that allowed the viewer to become an active participant in the work. These innovative explorations of perception, optical phenomena and the experience of space placed Fangor among the most progressive artists of his generation.<\/p>

A historic milestone in his career came in 1970, when he became the first and only Polish artist<\/strong> to have a solo exhibition at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum<\/strong> in New York. After emigrating to the United States, Fangor collaborated with the Washington Gallery of Modern Art and later taught at Fairleigh Dickinson University, continuing to refine his ideas on colour, space and optical perception.<\/p>

In the 1990s, after returning to Poland, he entered a new creative period that combined abstraction with figuration, investigating themes of modernity, media, and the visual language of contemporary culture. His works remain highly sought after by collectors and institutions around the world.<\/p>

Fangor\u2019s paintings are held in major museum collections including MoMA<\/strong>, the Guggenheim Museum<\/strong>, the Smithsonian Institution<\/strong>, the National Museum in Warsaw<\/strong> and numerous private collections across Europe and the United States.
