W\u0142adys\u0142aw Strzemi\u0144ski in Lodz, Poland.<\/p>\n<p>She has won more than a dozen awards and prizes at home and abroad. Among other awards, she received Opera Prima &#8211; 1st prize for debut at the 2009 Bologna International Book Fair for her illustrations for the book Fantje, Gimpel Verlag (published in Poland by Muchomor publishing house titled: S\u0142oni\u0105tko).<br \/>In July 2014, Cichowska received the Gustav Heinemann Peace Prize (Gustav-Heinemann-Friedenspreis) for her collaborative work, the book The Last Performance of Mrs. Esterka (text by Adam Jaromir, illustrations by Gabriela Cichowska). The book describes the life of Janusz Korczak and his charges at the Orphans&#8217; Home in the Warsaw Ghetto.
